Some welcome news for businesses affected by local lockdowns has been announced by the government. Businesses can claim grants of between £1,000 and £1,500 every three weeks while they are required to be closed.
Summary details of the scheme:
- Business must be required to close due to local COVID-19 restrictions. Any business still closed at national level (such as a night club) is not eligible
- If the occupied business premises has a rateable value of less than £51,000 they will receive £1,000
- If the occupied business premises has a rateable value of £51,000 and above they will receive £1,500
- Local authorities are responsible for paying the grants to businesses
- Local authorities may impose further eligibility criteria
- Each payment will be made for a three-week lockdown period. Each new three-week lockdown period triggers an additional payment
- The grants are taxable income
