Nigel Thompson
Tax Partner
Nigel is a senior tax partner and head of tax and financial services for Moore (NI) LLP.
Nigel is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and became a Fellow ten years later. He is a Chartered Tax Adviser and also a member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners.
He was educated at Foyle College in Londonderry, and Queen’s University, Belfast, graduating with a First-Class Honours Degree in Business Administration in 1979, being awarded the prize for best student in the same year.
He trained with Binder Hamlyn (now Grant Thornton) in Belfast, and with Arthur Andersen & Co, in Belfast, Dublin and Birmingham before joining the predecessor firm to Moore NI.
Nigel is one of Northern Ireland's best known tax practitioners and as well as being a leading authority on SDLT, he also has a wealth of experience advising on:

Suzanne O’Hara
Senior Tax Consultant
Suzanne, a published author on SDLT, is head of Moore (NI) LLP SDLT advisory service, providing specialist property tax advice to solicitors, private clients, accountants & other professionals.
As part of her everyday practice, Suzanne is instructed to provide advice on all aspects of SDLT, including (but not limited to):
- Application of the 3% surcharge,
- Availability of Multiple Dwellings Relief (particularly in relation to annexes)
- Mixed use transactions
- Title splits
- HMRC enquiries
Suzanne also provides professional training sessions on SDLT for MBL Seminars and delivers bespoke training workshops for solicitor practices, on request. She works closely with the Law Society of Northern Ireland and frequently delivers presentations on SDLT for its members. More recently, Suzanne has presented at the Law Society for England and Wales’ annual property conference. She has recently written a book entitled ‘A Practical Guide to Stamp Duty Land Tax in England and Northern Ireland’, for conveyancers which is available from
Law Brief Publishing and from
Amazon.
Suzanne read Law and Accounting at Queen’s University, Belfast. She is a Chartered Tax Adviser and also holds the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation, being awarded the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers Medal for the highest marks in the Principles of Corporate and International Taxation paper. She also lectures for the Irish Institute of Tax on the Principles of International Tax and more recently for the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen's University, Belfast.
