The saying “On yer bike!” has taken on a completely different meaning at Moore (South) LLP. Throughout May a team of partners have been riding their bikes for the
24 Hours of Cycling Challenge organised by locally based charity Brendoncare. The challenge requires each team member to clock up 24 hours of cycling during the month to help make a difference to an older person’s day.
Right from the word go team members Stuart Datlen and Andy Stevens from Southampton, and Sue Lucas and Andy Williams from the Isle of Wight and Salisbury offices wasted no time in pulling on the lycra and getting the miles under their belts.
Stuart Datlen has taken part in the
Wiggle Jurassic Beast Sportive in West Dorset and is training hard for the
Wiggle Bournemouth Sportive at the end of the month. While Sue Lucas, Andy Stevens and Andy Williams completed the 100km
Isle of Wight Randonnee at the beginning of the month and the two Andy’s competed in the
Cycle Wiltshire Sportive over 100 miles.
The grand finale to the challenge will be held at Thruxton Motor Racing circuit on 31st May when all participants will have the opportunity to cycle around the Hampshire circuit in a car free environment.
Brendoncare supports over 1 million elderly people who say they often or always feel lonely. Lonely, elderly people are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s than people who socialise regularly and it is a sad fact that 9% of older people feel trapped in their own home. For many the television or pets are their main company.
Brendoncare’s social and wellbeing clubs meet across Hampshire and Dorset to help prevent social isolation and loneliness amongst elderly people, with club members enjoying a wide variety of activities every week, as well as making friends and connections
www.brendoncare.org.ukBrendoncare, through its 10 residential care homes in the South of England, is a respected force among charities caring for frail elderly people and strives to help influence the future direction of healthcare in the sector. Driven by a commitment to quality care and a belief that an innovative approach is vital, Brendoncare continues to push forward standards of care.
