Pubs classed as “wet-led pubs” in tiers 2 and above that unfortunately did not have the opportunity to open or operate fully during the Christmas holiday period still have time to apply for the
£1,000 “wet-led pubs” grant. In order to be “wet-led” the pub must derive less than 50% of its income from food sales.
The December period normally would have provided increased footfall for many “wet-led pubs” however restrictions in tiers 2, 3 and 4 caused them to lose out. Those affected are invited to apply for this support grant through their local authority who will be responsible for distributing the grants. This grant is for the month of December only and applications will run until 31 January 2021. Businesses in areas that moved up to tier 2 or above from tier 1 after 29 December 2020 will not be eligible to receive funding for the “wet-led pubs” grant.
The grant’s purpose is to help businesses make ends meet while their income remains affected by tiers and lockdowns, this grant is in addition to the
CJRS (furlough scheme) which currently runs up until the end of April 2021. Payments should be made by the council by 28 February 2021.
Pubs should also be able to apply for up to £9,000 under the additional
Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG (Closed) Addendum) announced on 5 January 2021. Businesses that had been open as usual until the national restrictions imposed between 5 November and 2 December resulted in closure should be eligible. Any grant is based on the rateable value of the property. Such businesses may be entitled to a cash grant for each 28 day period whilst under restrictions, application is made through the local council (where the full eligibility conditions can be considered).
As there is currently no news on whether lockdown will continue or when there will be a re-introduction of the tier system, we hope the government will continue to offer grants and support to businesses in these coming months.
