Changes to HMRC VAT portal may require Sage software upgrade

Lorna Bloor

HMRC are making changes to the VAT portal from 14thFebruary 2018.  Sage have confirmed to us that they are updating only the latest version of Sage 50 accounts (version 24) to accommodate the changes.

This means that if you are on an older version of Sage 50 or Sage Instant you will need to upgrade your Sage package in order to submit your VAT return directly from Sage.

If you don’t upgrade your software you will still be able to access the new VAT portal via your HMRC online account and complete your return manually, but you will no longer be able to submit your return directly from your Sage software.

From April 2019 all businesses will be required to file their VAT returns online through their accounting software and will no longer be able to file manually via the HMRC online portal. Therefore if you do not upgrade now you will need to consider the upgrade of your Sage software before April 2019

We recommend that you check which version of Sage you are using before 14th February.  If you think you may be affected, please contact Moore for a discussion of the options available and  a bespoke quote for upgrading your Sage package.
