Mervyn graduated with an honours degree in Accountancy from the University of Dundee in 1994. He worked in Edinburgh for British Holidays as a manager of one of the Company’s entertainment complexes until 1996. He returned to Northern Ireland and took up a position with Witt Thornton (the predecessor firm of Moore). With Moore he qualified as a member of the Institute of Accounting Technicians in 1997, qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2001 and a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2003. He is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant he has worked in the Tax Department of Moore and his areas of interest include HM Revenue and Customs investigations, tax efficient business structures and the tax efficient use of employee benefits including share based remuneration.
